The only way upgrades can be sped up is through the use of Gold or hull specific upgrade tokens, generic or hull specific build tokens cannot be used to speed up this process.
When attempting to speed up an Upgrade if the specific upgrade tokens are unowned only the gold option will appear as a speed up option.
